Role of Parents in Baby Growth

Parents play pivotal role in baby’s physical, social and emotional development. They always want everything perfect for their babies. The deep concern and focused attempts are essential to encourage babies’ growth and development. Babies begin grow before their infancy. According to Adiaha Spinks-Franklin, MD who is a developmental-behavioral pediatrician at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston, the neurological system of a child starts to develop in the very first week of gestation and originally prepare by the fourth week of pregnancy.

Fetus can hear by end of 17th weeks of pregnancy. So, you can encourage their activities to stimulate their development by simple singing or reading books. The active contribution parents encourage kid’s language, cognitive and motor development. Here, we will discuss some simple practices promoting kid’s development besides nurturing their bond with parents.

Make Bond with Your Baby
A new born is very sensitive to touch and sounds. The MD, medical director of the Pediatric Care Center at Children’s Mercy Hospitals and Clinics in Kansas City, Mo., Kenneth Wible said that when you hold kids close to you, talk or sing to them and make different sounds, it stimulates their hearing senses. In order to motivate their visual senses, make sure they can see your face when he/she awakes.

Researches prove that the babies like designs and objects having great resemblance with human face. Dr. Wible said that smile a lot till the child reaches 2-3 months of age so that he/she can respond. It is essential to hold babies close to you as they born with 20/200 vision.

Stimulate Senses
Infant of 2-3 months starts exploring and learning about their surroundings. This is the initial phase, when baby begins to experience different textures by touching them. You can expose variety of surfaces, take their hand, rub on things and observe what they feel, what expressions they have made. Similarly, you can introduce them variety of smells, sights and other details of their environment. This helps to encourage their language and motor skills.

Talk with Your Baby
According to Amelia Miller, MS, chief infant development specialist at La Rabida Children’s Hospital in Chicago, starts talking with your baby as soon as he/she is born. You can interaction with baby by using “motherese” with facial expressions. Listen the sounds and cries of baby and differentiate their meanings as these sounds indicate their needs. When baby reaches 4-5 months, begin to work on their communication and language skills development by listening and imitating their babbling such as “ba-ba”, “ma-ma” etc. Call baby with his/her name and other loving words like “Hi, sweetie” and let baby to speak with you directly.

Make Them Feel Safe and Comfortable
At the very first week of birth, infant needs assurance that his/her needs will be met therefore baby cries and responds. Its parents’ duty to fulfill baby’s need and provide a sense of security and comfort. It plays an important role in baby’s development. The daily schedule of baby’s activities provides a sense of security and control such as sleeping, feeding etc.

Encourage Baby to Play with Toys
At the age of 6 months, it is necessary for baby to develop basic motor skills like sitting without support, grasping things etc. You can introduce baby with new interactive toys that stimulate baby to chase them and encourage to move. The colorful and pop up toys attract babies. The large size toys are easy to grasp and stimulate their motor development.
